Wink

Behind the smile, emotionally punched out, the rejection, the over working.

No longer smiling we wink at each other and other women in knowing and solidarity.

‘Wink’ is a collaboration between Emily Stubbs & Victoria Robinson.

“This work represents a shift in thought. An awareness. An acceptance of what we had experienced, inadvertently colluded with and what we no longer would.”

Each head was created by hand out of paper mache by building up layer upon layer of paper and glue.

Once the heads were dry the faces were hand painted on each one before being suspended from the ceiling.

Each face, although looking identical to the next, has its own unique character.

“I really love the impact that these faces have when they are displayed ‘en masse’. Each face is looking in a different direction meaning there is nowhere to hide from their gaze. They see you.”
